Physical gold details

  • London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) – basic standard

The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) is an organisation that regulates the international trade in gold and silver bars and sets globally recognised trading standards. It is one of the most important institutions in the precious metals industry. For EUWAX Gold bonds issued before 2019, only the LBMA standard applies, without the later Good Delivery status. The gold stored for EUWAX Gold is therefore not subject to the extended criteria introduced from 2019 onwards.

  • Extended criteria not included

Unlike gold products issued after 2019, issues made before 2019 do not include:

    • The Responsible Sourcing Programme
    • The extended criteria for social and environmental aspects (2019)
    • Full LBMA Good Delivery status
  • Custody and security

For all EUWAX Gold bearer bonds in circulation, the issuer deposits physical gold bars of corresponding value with the custodian. One bond securitises 100 grams of gold. The gold is stored exclusively in Germany, in the high-security vaults of a globally operating custodian. The physical gold backing is neither lent out nor used as collateral. The physical gold is insured against loss up to an appropriate amount of 150 million EUR per calendar year.

  • Ownership rights and delivery

The rights to the stored gold are, in principle, held by the issuer. Investors do not own the stored gold; instead, they hold a securitised claim to delivery against the issuer. EUWAX Gold incurs no ongoing product costs – the metal entitlement per bond remains constant. Physical delivery within Germany is possible from 100 grams (or a whole multiple thereof) without any additional issuer fee.
