Physical silver details

  • London Bullion Market Association (LBMA)

The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) is an organisation that regulates the international trade in gold and silver bars and sets globally recognised trading standards. It is one of the most important institutions in the precious metals industry and awards Good Delivery status. The LBMA works continuously to make the precious metals market more transparent. Key measures were successfully implemented in 2012, 2018 and 2019.

  • Introduction of the Responsible Sourcing Programme

In 2012, the LBMA introduced the Responsible Sourcing Programme, which follows a due diligence process in line with the OECD Guidelines. All Good Delivery refineries wishing to trade via the London bullion market must comply with the Responsible Gold Guidance. These refineries are audited annually by independent certification bodies and must provide evidence that the precious metal traded is conflict-free.

  • Extension to silver

In 2018, the Responsible Sourcing Programme was extended to silver. The newly introduced Responsible Silver Guidance is deliberately aligned with the existing Responsible Gold Guidance and enables multi-metal audits. All silver refineries on the Good Delivery List are therefore subject to the same strict compliance and transparency requirements as gold refineries.

  • Extension of the criteria

Since 2019, the standard has been extended to include further criteria, adding social and environmental aspects to the sourcing process and promoting responsible conduct by refineries. For all EUWAX Silver Core bearer bonds in circulation, the issuer deposits physical silver of corresponding value with the custodians. The silver is stored in high-security vaults in the United Kingdom. The rights to the stored silver are, in principle, held by the issuer. Investors do not own the stored silver; instead, they hold a securitised claim to delivery against the issuer.

FAQs

EUWAX Silver Core (WKN: EWG2AG) is a physically backed silver ETC issued by Boerse Stuttgart Commodities GmbH. The ETC makes it easy to invest in physical silver on every trading day – directly through your own securities account.

With EUWAX Silver Core, Boerse Stuttgart Commodities is expanding its product family to include a physically backed silver investment. The same basic principles apply to EUWAX Silver Core as to the gold ETCs: German issuer, German law, physical backing and storage in high-security vaults.

Silver combines the characteristics of an investment metal and an industrial metal. While gold is primarily used as a store of value, a significant share of silver production goes into industrial applications such as photovoltaics, electronics and medical technology. This additional source of demand can increase the return potential, but also leads to higher volatility compared with gold.
